The Cochin University of Science and Technology conducts a common entrance test (CAT), a departmental admission test (DAT) and a test for lateral entry (LET) for admissions in different programs offered by the university and its affiliated colleges. For MBA the University accepts scores of the examinations C-MAT (AICTE)/CAT (IIM) and MAT (AIMA) as well.
For the first graduate degree programs- for B.Tech and 5 years integrated degree M.Sc. in Photonics, the university will conduct an All India Examination CAT. The exam will be held in examination centers located throughout India.
The Departmental Test (DAT) is conducted within the university campus. It is for admissions in specific departments in the university. The details of DAT will be notified by the departments separately.
For all other programs, examinations will be conducted within the state of Kerala.
CUSAT CAT 2018
The degree programs for which CAT will be conducted include B.Tech in Civil, Instrumentation Technology, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ship Building. Other courses are combined BBA.-LLB-Hons, B.Com LLB-Hons and 5-year M.Sc in Photonics.
CUSAT 2018 Eligibility
For applying to the B.Tech courses including B.Tech in Civil, Computer Science, IT, Electronics and Communication, Polymer Science and Engineering, Safety and Fire Engineering and 5 years integrated M.Sc. Photonics, the candidates must have cleared( or appearing in 2018) their 12th standard examination from the Board of Kerala or any other board duly recognized by the Govt. of India/ Kerala. Additionally, the candidates must also have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their 11th and 12th standard and must have obtained at least 50 % marks in mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate in the subject group of PCM in their 12th standard exam.
For applying to B.Tech Instrumentation Technology – the candidate must fulfill the above-mentioned criteria except that he must have obtained at least55% marks in Mathematics and a minimum of 60% marks in the PCM subject group in his 12th standard.
For applying to B.Tech in Marine Engineering – the candidate must have passed his 12th Standard examination and should have secured 60% in aggregate in the PCM subject group. He must have obtained at least 50% in mathematics in his 12th standard examination. Additionally, he must have also got 50% marks in his 12th or 10th English exam. The admissions in B.Tech in Marine Engineering will be according to directions issued by the DG shipping. The candidates will be required to have a physical fitness certificate. The maximum age of the candidate should not exceed 25 years on September 2016.
For applying to B.Tech in Naval Architecture – the candidate must have obtained at least 60 % in his 12th standard examination. He must have also achieved at least 50% marks in mathematics and 50% in aggregate in the subject group of PCM.
For applying to BBA LLB Hons – the candidate must have obtained in his 12th standard at least 60% marks in Science/Commerce group or 55% marks in Arts/Humanities group. The candidates must not have completed 20 years of age on 1st July 2018. The SC/ST and OBC candidates must not have crossed 22 years of age.
For applying to B.Com LLB Hons -the candidate must have obtained at least 60% marks in his 12th exam in the science group. For commerce/arts and humanities group, the lower percentage limit is 55%. The candidates must not have completed 20 years of age on 1st July 2018. The SC/ST and OBC candidates must not have crossed 22 years of age.
In BBA LLB and B.Com LLB, students who have done their 10+ 2 from correspondence course can also apply.
The SC/ST candidates must obtain at least passing marks if they want to be eligible for admission. This holds true for all courses except B.Tech in Marine Engineering.
MBA- A candidate must have obtained at least 50 % marks in his graduation (in any disciple) to apply for the MBA-full time program.
The candidates with 3 years supervisory/executive experience will be given preference in MBA- part time.
For other post graduate M.Sc courses – the candidate must have necessary qualification and should also have the least percentage of marks.
The university also offers M.Tech programs. Candidates having the requisite qualification (B.Tech) and least percentages of marks can apply for these programs. The below-given link ahs more details of these programs.
For applying for lateral entry (to the third semester) in B.Tech Courses- a candidate must have a 3-year diploma in the respective engineering branch from an AICTE approved institution recognized by the Govt. of Kerala. The candidate must not have crossed 25 years of age.
Reservation – The domicile, SC/ST/OBC etc. reservations (as notified by Govt. of India and Govt. of Kerala) apply to all courses of CUSAT criteria also applies to CUSAT.
CUSAT 2018 Application form
All the candidates must register themselves online on the CUSAT website. They have to enter all the necessary details correctly, upload their photographs and signature and enter the bank challan transaction details in the form after paying the fee at the SBI, SBT bank.
The printout of the application form, DD/Pay Order and Xerox of other documents as notified in the application have to be sent to the address specified in the application form before the last date of submission.
Admissions through DAT
For the certificate, diploma, pg diploma, M.Phil., Ph.D. and MA translation admissions, the university conducts DAT. Candidates who want to apply for these courses may get the DAT application forms from the specific university departments/schools.
The fee for the CSAT exam is Rs.1000 for general category candidates and Rs.500 for SC/ST candidates. The fee is Rs. 6000 for those who apply under the NRI quota. The demand draft of the fee has to be made in favor of Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam.

The admit of the exam will not be sent to the applicant by post. They have to download the same from the website of CUSAT.
